Our project is simply to further William & Mary Debate Society’s core mission of successfully competing at American Parliamentary Debate Association (APDA) tournaments. Over this past semester we have had increased engagement with our members and with the campus. We believe additional funding from Tribefunding would allow us to achieve greater financial security for tournament travel, expand the benefits of debate to more members (since the ability to attend more tournaments will make our team more attractive to prospective members), and thereby positively impact the campus community overall. We believe that open, frank, and honest discussion (i.e., what we do in debate) is a crucial tool in bringing about meaningful change in society. I thought it would be a shame if our members and the campus community as a whole lost the chance to engage in this critical process, if we couldn’t afford to attend tournaments. We look forward to sharing what we bring to William & Mary’s campus, and we thank you for your time and consideration.
