Title: Identity-Building Across Ages in Appalachia: A proposed study of identity building through Appalachian features by queer Appalachian speakers of different ages
Project Description:
My work hopes to use sociolinguistics to look at how speakers with conflicting identities situate themselves within a conversation. Specifically, I want to look at how an age difference may influence which identity the speaker prioritizes in certain parts of the discourse. It would look mainly at speakers who are both queer and Appalachian, as both identities have strong connotations tied to them.
