In-depth service opportunities are not easily accessible to students with limited incomes, as they may need to spend a greater amount of their time working for pay. Civic & Community Engagement has undertaken a year-long planning process, in collaboration with partners in local schools, Head Start, and on campus to respond to this need. We have developed a program that will allow students to receive stipends and education awards as AmeriCorps members while meeting urgent needs for mentoring, literacy, and academic support for preschool and middle school students.
We are excited for the ways this project will offer meaningful service opportunities for William & Mary students, and provide them with expert training in early childhood mentoring and literacy education, middle school mentoring and project-based learning, family engagement, and content and curriculum development. We are also proud that the program promises additional, needed impact in our broader community with and among young people.
With your gift today you can provide support for William & Mary students to engage in childhood mentoring activities, including training, qualification, program supplies and travel.
