Persuasion in Discourse: Evaluation Strategies of Vegans
Hometown: Leesburg, Virginia
Department: Linguistics
Advisor: Leslie Cochrane
Due to their minority position in society, vegans, or individuals who refrain from consuming animal products, are constantly subject to criticisms of their way of life. My Honors Thesis will involve using sociolinguistic interviews with vegans of different backgrounds to investigate the linguistic resources of evaluation that vegans use in the face of these criticisms to characterize their lifestyle and to advertise the movement to other individuals.
