Project title:
Impact of Mask-Wearing on Emotional Attention in Individuals with Autistic Traits
Project description:
Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) exhibit deficits in emotional processing which have been hypothesized to be related to the tendency to avoid looking at the eye region of the face. As the use of face masks necessitates attention to the eye region for accurate emotional identification, examining the processing of faces in individuals with ASD is important. Less accurate emotional identification of masked individuals versus unmasked has been demonstrated, with a greater effect for individuals with high levels of autistic traits. The proposed study will analyze the impact of mask-wearing on attention towards relevant emotional information.
