This project is inspired by a unanimously-passed Student Assembly resolution that aims to make William & Mary more accessible to refugee and asylee students. Along with steps to address social, emotional, and educational adversity that these groups may face in higher education, this project aims to address financial barriers to attendance at William & Mary. It entails establishing an emergency fund for refugee and asylee students at William & Mary. We hope the fund will help to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by refugees and asylees who have special immigration statuses, as they may face heightened adversity in attending William & Mary. The fund will finance unexpected costs which further distract refugee and asylee students from their studies. We hope to use the Tribefunding campaign to establish sufficient financing to make funds available to eligible students for the 2020-2021 school year.
