Britain and the Continent: Henry Fielding and the Idea of Europe
Hometown: Newark, Delaware
Department: English
Advisor: Brett Wilson
My Honors Thesis will investigate how Henry Fielding's novels Tom Jones and Joseph Andrews negotiate the relationship between Britain, classical antiquity, and early modernity by functioning as moral, ethical, and political commentaries on Britain and Europe. Having lived in St. Andrews, Scotland in the two years following the Brexit referendum, my research can offer unique insight into how the British identified with Europe in the past and help us to understand the British culture today.
All William & Mary Honors Fellowships fundraising supports the Charles Center Honors Fellowships Fund. Direct support for individual undergraduate research projects is distributed by the Roy R. Charles Center for Academic Excellence.
