Today, as we celebrate One Tribe One Day, we invite you to make a gift to James Monroe’s Highland, a place where scholarship, civic learning and community programs converge. Our goal for 2026 is to achieve 20% more donors than last year. If we make it, we’ll unlock a gift of $10,000, thanks to a very generous donor. Your contribution gets us one step closer!
Highland is where William & Mary’s past, present, and public purpose meet.
Because of your support, Highland has become:
- A hub of public history for both campus and community
- A site of groundbreaking research, including archaeological discoveries that uncovered a forgotten presidential home
- A platform for timely interpretation, such as A Window to a New America, with themes to explore on the nation’s 250th anniversary
- A space for dialogue, where William & Mary students collaborate with the Highland Council of Descendant Advisors to bring the past into conversation with the present
Highland has been part of William & Mary since 1974. It has grown into a multidisciplinary research campus that fosters innovative student and faculty projects while welcoming the public into meaningful engagement with history and ecology.
Your generosity:
- Supports student learning and faculty teaching at Highland
- Enables public programs and interpretation
- Provides community conversations about place-based ecology
Year after year, Highland thrives because alumni and friends choose to sustain it.
Your One Tribe One Day gift helps ensure that Highland remains a living extension of William & Mary’s vision: to transcend the boundaries between research and teaching, teaching and learning, learning and living, and in so doing, to inspire lifelong learning, generate new knowledge and expand understanding.
Please do come visit us. Highland is beautiful in every season, and we are always glad to welcome William & Mary alumni back to this special place.
