As the university's national security hub, WGC creates chances. We cultivate career-launching opportunities for students at unified combatant commands and the broader defense community with funding support through our National Security Internship Program and through the DOW VICEROY Scholar cyber-spectrum initiative. We sponsor the premier student-led Wargaming Lab and W&M Global Innovation Challenge who collaborate with partners like NATO, U.S. Space Force, and PIT-UN to champion global issues, from climate sustainability to nuclear deterrence. We work tirelessly every day to break down barriers for entry into the national security world and make sure that if a student has that golden opportunity, nothing stands in their way.
Unique among university centers, WGC was established to serve the broader military and interagency community through customized continuing education and other convening opportunities. For students from the State Department, Intelligence Community and more, we design strategic broadening seminars on such topics as Integrating AI for Federal Acquisition Excellence, Balancing National Security & Ethical Governance of AI, Governance in Conflict & Post-Conflict Environments, and Navigating Great Power Competition.
By the numbers, we have assisted more than 600 students with national security internships, awarded over $345,000 in stipends to support these internships, taught hundreds of mid-career professionals in our custom certificate programs, and cultivated numerous government and military relationships for the university. Whether through a donation to the general Whole of Government Fund, the former W&M President Paul Verkuil ’61 Whole of Government Endowment for pressing needs at Gates Hall, or funds directly supporting WMGIC, the Wargaming Lab or national security internships, your generosity can help us do more.
